1.3: What is Biological Anthropology The Scope of Biological Anthropology. Just as anthropology as a discipline is wide ranging and holistic, so too is the Primatology. Primatologists study the anatomy, behavior, ecology and genetics of living and extinct nonhuman primates, Paleoanthropology.

Our research encompasses a broad range of topics within biological and evolutionary anthropology, including bioarchaeology, forensic anthropology, archaeological science, human reproductive strategies, hominin evolution, primate behaviour and ecology, modern human variation, and cultural. Biological (physical) anthropology focuses on the biological evolution of humans, human fossil ancestors, and non-human primates, as well as the patterns of biological and bio-cultural variation within and among living and fossil human populations. The Biological Anthropology Program supports basic research in areas related to human evolution and contemporary human biological variation. Research areas supported by the program include, but are not limited to, human genetic variation, human and nonhuman primate ecology and adaptability, human osteology and bone biology, human and nonhuman primate paleontology, functional anatomy, and Biological (or as it sometimes called, physical) anthropology is a biological science that focuses on the evolution, behavior, and variation (genetic and morphological) of humans, our living primate relatives, and the fossil remains of our hominid ancestors and their relatives.
